Explore the Beauty and History of Ras Al Khaimah In Style

Ras Al Khaimah is one of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates. The capital city of the emirate is also called Ras Al Khaimah which typically will get shortened down to just RAK. As a tourist hotspot, the city of Ras Al Khaimah is one of the safest and most entertaining destinations in this region of the Middle East. With a population of 345,000 and an ever-growing tourism industry, now might be the perfect time to pack your bags for an outdoor adventure across the world.

Making the Most of Your Trip to Ras Al Khaimah

Right now, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is experiencing exponential growth. Thanks to the focus of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the government has renewed its efforts on promoting tourism and making the region more accessible than ever. What does this mean? Well, when you first find yourself setting foot in Ras Al Khaimah, you’ll remark in wonder at more than just the miles of sandy white beaches, soaring mountains, and the endless desert. Instead, you’ll find yourself in a place that will embrace you with great culture, delicious food, and fascinating history. When you make your way to Ras Al Khaimah, you are going to want to pay attention to a few different things.

1) History of the City – Ras Al Khaimah has been inhabited for more than 7,000 consecutive years, one of the only places in the world where this is the situation. Due to the longevity of inhabitation in the region, you are always going to be just a short drive away from an incredible historic hotspot to visit.

Places to Visit: First and foremost, you are going to want to make your way to Sheba’s Palace, otherwise known as Zenobia’s Palace. Make sure that you head out early so that you can enjoy the sunrise from the remains of the ancient historic sight. Next, you’ll want to book a day to visit the ghost town of Al Jazirah Al Hamrah where you can see some ancient history while also getting a feel for the texture of the local culture.

2) Prepare for the Outdoors – Like much of the rest of the Middle East, Ras Al Khaimah is going to be hot pretty much whenever you come. During the winter, RAK will hover around 75′. In the summer, you’ll see temperatures sit anywhere from 85′ to 110′ on most days. With rain being a rarity, you’ll want to stay hydrated and cooled down.

What to Remember: Dress for the occasion, but remember the culture of the area that you are visiting. Ras Al Khaimah is a more liberal emirate, so dress codes aren’t going to be as strict. Still, dress modestly and keep your knees and shoulders covered while out in public.

3) Take a Daytrip – Finally, you are going to want to be ready to commit at least an entire day to exploring the ruins where the Dhayan people fought off a 19th-century invasion from the British. If you head to the village of Khatt, you’ll find some amazing views as well as the natural thermal springs.

What to Expect: If you are in Ras Al Khaimah during the winter, heading to Khatt is a must. You’ll get the chance to submerge yourself within the mineral-infused thermal springs that are beloved by locals and visitors alike.

Ras Al Khaimah is a beautiful place that has kept mostly out of the geopolitical strife that has entrenched much of the UAE. As an impartial emirate, you can expect safe travel, great food, and wonderful views.
